Wondering if rewards credits cards are actually beneficial or if the pitfalls and risks outweigh any benefits. For example, I am pre-approved by Chase for a Sapphire rewards card that comes with 100,000 travel points if I spend $4,000 in the first 3 months. As I’m moving into a new house in a few months I will need to purchase at least that much for appliances, furniture, etc.
I’m risk averse when it comes to leaving any balances on credit cards, so I generally carry a zero balance on all existing cards on a monthly basis. I will likely have the cash to pay for the above referenced transactions, but if I can make them on a rewards card and then subsequently pay off the balance I’m wondering if there’s something I’m missing? Or is this a good opportunity to take advantage of a chance to get “free” travel reward points?
