For former Chelsea forward Eden Hazard, injuries have been known to hamper his performance.
Now with Real Madrid, the 30-year-old hopes to recall his old form and repay Los Blancos for the belief they have in him.
So far, Hazard has yet to prove that. Currently, on a five-year deal with Los Blancos, the Belgian winger knows that time is essential.
But this early, he knows that he needs to show his true worth with Real Madrid.
“I signed with Real Madrid for five seasons. The first two have not been good, the injuries have not helped me, but I still have three more to prove my worth,” Hazard told HLN. “Real Madrid have already spent a lot of money on me. I want to give something back to them.”
The main concern for Hazard is his durability. He is aware that injuries have hampered his efficiency but reveals that he is doing the necessary adjustments to address it.
“I do what I have to do. I work daily with the physio. That’s what I do. Since the beginning of the season we have done a great job with the physical trainer,” Hazard explained. “At the moment it is going well, I am feeling better, but I am not completely 100% still. I hope we continue like this.”
Before the injury bug got in the way, Hazard was hailed as one of the elite players in English football.
Proof of that was him winning the 2014-15 English Premier League Player of the Season plum.
However, he has yet to establish his mark in La Liga after he was acquired for £86 million ($118 million) in 2019.
Hazard has only appeared in 33 matches for Real Madrid so far.
Hence, it comes as no surprise that he has attracted heavy criticism from Real Madrid supporters.
“People think that I am always injured. That is the truth. But if you review my career there is not a player who, for a period of 10 years, has played as many games as I have,” Hazard said on the notion that he is an injury-prone player.
For now, the immediate concern for Hazard is a spot in the starting lineup.
Standing in his way is Vinícius José Paixão de Oliveira Júnior, someone who is in much better form and has been impressive for Real Madrid so far.
