Former Olympic boxer bought AK-47 to shoot up Miami gym: police

A one-time Olympic boxer was arrested this week, thwarting a plan to commit a mass shooting at a Miami gym, police say.

Light heavyweight Azea Agustama, 39, was arrested early Wednesday and charged with two felony counts of issuing written threats to commit a mass shooting and one count of threatening to kill, the Miami Herald reports.

The former pro boxer known professionally as the “Haitian Hitman” shared a photo of the Parkland, Fla., mass shooter, saying he “was considering shooting” multiple people after he was stripped of his membership from the BOXR Gym following an argument this month, according to a Miami police report.

Agustama said in the post he was also accused of having “touched a girl” and was “willing to shoot with a actual gun or bazoka [sic],” police said.

Agustama, who has been thrown out of multiple boxing gyms, on Tuesday put down a deposit on an AK-47 rifle at a nearby pawn shop, where he was apprehended, according to the police report.

Lacking a concealed weapons permit proved to be an obstacle for Agustama, whom police say admitted to the threats and the gun purchase.

He was ordered to be held on a $3 million bond due to a circuit judge’s belief he “poses a great danger to the community” after he bought the weapon.

Agustama represented Haiti at the 2008 Olympics and has also worked as a personal trainer.
