A sibling trio from East Tennessee with stage presence to spare, The Band Perry first enticed listeners with a sleeper single, “If I Die Younger.” That lovely breakout hit rose to No. 1 at nation radio in December 2010 and set the inspiration for a string of hits.
Kimberly Perry, who’s credited because the tune’s sole author, instructed BMI Music World in 2011 that the title got here out of nowhere.
“That actually fell out onto the paper,” she stated. “As soon as I started to see that in my journaling, I ran downstairs as a result of the boys have been rehearsing. All of us jumped into our writing circle and I stated, ‘Simply play these chords again and again till I say cease!’”
Eleven months after the chart-topping achievement, the Band Perry gained three CMA Awards: Single and Tune for “If I Die Younger” and Finest New Artist. Within the latter class, they edged out Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Thompson Sq., and Chris Younger.
From the rostrum, Kimberly Perry acknowledged, “I actually consider that ’If I Die Younger’ would have been written with or with out me. It simply all the time felt like a tune that was meant to be right here. However I’ll let you know this, I used to be so excited to have the pen and paper in hand when it was prepared to come back to earth.”
She added, “I wish to thank the followers of nation music once more. Your tales have modified our lives. Thanks, nation radio, for permitting this tune to be heard and giving it a shot. I wish to thank my brothers who play it alongside me evening after evening. They’re the spine of The Band Perry. And, in fact, our mother and father, Marie and Steve Perry. We’re their labor of affection. They’ve all the time inspired our writing.”
With the momentum of the bittersweet ballad, the Band Perry retained its radio presence for the subsequent three years, sending titles like “All Your Life,” “Higher Dig Two,” and “Completed” to No. 1. In addition they gained a 2014 Grammy Award for a remake of Glen Campbell’s “Light on My Thoughts.” However after explorations into different music genres, their Instagram account seems to have gone dormant.
Nevertheless, the Band Perry did maintain a storage sale of their hometown of Greeneville, Tennessee, in 2019. Information reviews indicated they have been engaged on new music, too.
“We’ve by no means completed something like this,” Neil Perry instructed WBIR through the sale, which was held in an empty store downtown. “We initially considered placing it up on-line doing a free for all for all of the followers, however we got here again right here and began recording our subsequent batch of music.”
