Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.

1.) Disney’s new adventure-comedy Strange World is out in theaters now! The animated feature details the adventures of a legendary family of explorers, the Clades, who overcome their differences while exploring a strange, wondrous, and often hostile world. Out actor and comedian Jaboukie Young-White plays gay 16-year-old Ethan, who longs for adventure and has a crush on his friend Diazo (Jonathan Melo). You don’t want to miss Strange World on the big screen, so get your tickets now!

2.) Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery arrived in theaters Wednesday and will stay there for a week preceding its Netflix release on December 23. The Knives Out sequel presents a new mystery for detective Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) to solve, this time a murder mystery party gone awry. The film features queer non-binary performer Janelle Monae as Cassandra Brand, a tech entrepreneur and ex-assistant to the host of the party. Catch Glass Onion in theaters while you can!

3.) All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, a documentary detailing the life and work of Nan Goldin, came out on Wednesday this week. Goldin was a photographer and activist whose career often documented the LGBTQ community and the HIV and AIDS crisis, and she herself was bisexual. This documentary, however, focuses on her work to hold Purdue Pharma accountable for the opioid epidemic, a cause personal to her as an addict who almost died of an overdose. See All the Beauty and the Bloodshed now.

4.) HBO’s The White Lotus was renewed for a third season this week! The anthology show from out creator Mike White follows a different group of travelers every season as they visit one of the fictional titular White Lotus resorts. In the past, the show has featured both queer actors and characters, and we hope that the show will continue to include queer stories when the new group of travelers hits the screen. In the meantime catch the second season of The White Lotus, which features out actor Aubrey Plaza, now on HBO.

5.) Caitlin Cronenberg’s upcoming environmental thriller Humane wrapped filming this week and announced its cast, including queer actor Emily Hampshire (Schitt’s Creek). The film tracks a single day that takes place months after an environmental catastrophe that has forced a dramatic control of the human population. Keep an eye out for Humane’s release date!

6.) Jeopardy’s Tournament of Champions came to a conclusion this week, with Jeopardy legend Amy Schneider, a trans woman, taking home the $250,000 prize. Schneider’s previous 40 game run is the second longest in the show’s history behind now-host Ken Jennings.

I owe so much to so many people today. But above all, I can’t find enough ways to say how lucky I am that the most amazing woman in the world has chosen to spend her life with me. I love you, Genevieve, and I could never, ever have done this without you pic.twitter.com/gKwOfYz9C5

7.) In music news this week, queer singer-songwriter Emily Henry has a new song out titled “How it Feels,” and queer pop artist Jake Lancer’s single “Baby is the Moment,” is out now as well. GLAAD’s own Communities of Color Associate Director Julian Walker has an EP out this week titled “Fall 2020.” Stream queer artists this Thanksgiving!

8.) On Tuesday, it was announced that two-time drag race winner Jinkx Monsoon will play Matron ‘Mama’ Morton in Chicago on Broadway. The musical tracks Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, two women who killed their lovers, and their desire for freedom but more importantly, stardom. Her run as Mama will last eight weeks beginning on January 16, so don’t wait to get your tickets! In other theater news, the West End stage adaptation of A Little Life announced its cast, which will include out actor Omari Douglas. The play, based on Hanya Yanagihara’s book of the same name, follows the lives of four male friends, including the central Jude, as they endure all the traumas that life throws at them. Jude, who is gay, and Willem, another of the friends, eventually spark up a relationship. Strong trigger warnings for self-harm, sexual assault, and suicide.

I cannot stress enough that this has been a lifelong dream of mine. I’m making my Broadway debut…we did it kids! @ChicagoMusical pic.twitter.com/qaxNDS2oTQ

9.) Queer artists took home a number of awards at the American Music Awards on Sunday. Self-described queer performer Dove Cameron, whose single “Boyfriend” went viral earlier this year, took home the award for “Best New Artist.” She specifically thanked the queer community in her acceptance speech, and named GLAAD and The Trevor Project as two organizations to support in light of recent events. Legendary gay rockstar Elton John won “Collab of the Year” for “Cold Heart,” his project with Dua Lipa and PNAU. Bisexual performer Anitta took home the award for “Favorite Female Latin Artist,” and Maneskin, whose members include bisexual bassist Victoria de Angelis and “sexually free” drummer Ethan Torchio, took home awards for “Favorite New Rock Song”.

10.) Nominations for the 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards were announced this week, with queer projects and performers receiving a significant number of looks. Everything Everywhere All at Once and TÁR got nominations for “Best Picture,” “Best Screenplay,” “Best Editing,” with TÁR also grabbing one for “Best Cinematography.” The Inspection was nominated for “Best First Feature,” along with gay actor Jeremy Pope receiving a “Best Lead Performance” nod for his role in the film. Out actress Aubrey Plaza was nominated for “Best Lead Performance” for her role in Emily the Criminal. Catherine Called Birdy received a nomination for “Best Screenplay,” and Fire Island and Bodies, Bodies, Bodies both got looks for “Best First Screenplay.” Neptune Frost, which features an intersex main character, got a look for “Best Cinematography,” and All the Beauty and the Bloodshed got a nomination for “Best Documentary.” Finally, Joyland took home a nomination for “Best International Picture.” Check out the full list of nominees here.

The 2023 Film Independent #SpiritAwards Film Nominations have just been announced, and we are so excited. Catch up here:https://t.co/rf56EirC9D
