The celebrity endorsement of olive oil isn’t exactly new—we see you, Jennifer Lopez, Kylie Jenner and Erin Andrews, who told us this time last year that she “does a shot of olive oil every single day”—and neither are the solid health-benefitting studies that surround it.
None of this is lost on luxe skin-care brand Furtuna Skin, a company that has built its entire ethos on transparency, sustainability and “old-world-meets-modern-science” formulas. The center of it all: A 800-acre, family-owned estate in Sicily, and its corresponding star ingredient of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO), a cornerstone of the line since it launched three years ago.
Until now, the sunny land has been the source of wild-foraged botanicals that powered the brand’s well-curated topical skin-care lineup—which includes a Facial Oil that Hailey Bieber shared is a big factor behind her “glazed donut” glow and an Ashley Tisdale–approved eye cream, to name two endoresements—but, starting today, they’ll get into the inside-outside wellness game with the introduction of a drinking elixir called LXR06.
As CEO Kim Walls shared over a recent Zoom, the “years-in-the-making” EVOO drink is formulated to treat skin from the “inside out and accelerate the results of topical skin care,” which she says helps the uptake of the body and skin’s rejuvenating bioactive nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants reach “the next level.” How it works: Walls recommends taking a tablespoon on an empty stomach in the morning, and says it improves digestive function and is more potent than your standard EVOO—to the tune of more polyphenols, lower free acid and higher sterol levels (hence, the inside-out hook). To that end, the brand will launch it alongside its cult-favorite Biphase Moisturizing Oil (that’s the one that’s Bieber-beloved) as part of its Liquid Gold set ($250).
If you’re still not convinced, the level of attention to detail that goes into making even one bottle is impressive: The olives are hand-picked over 45 days in September to October when skin-moisturizing sterol levels are highest, and the olives are pressed within 12 hours to preserve the fatty-acid levels.
While I’ve only just started sipping the drink last week, I can confidently say it serves as a good kickstart to the day and gives a bit of “insurance” not to go off-course in the afternoon (i.e., it seems silly to eat unhealthy snacks during the 3 p.m. slump when you’re taking a minute for some mindfulness). Plus, it seems to keep me feeling less hungry for the full course of the day—something my morning coffee rounds can’t seem to compete with.
