I live in Missouri, and I am going to the University of Pittsburgh for college. I’m a low-income student, so I’ve received a grand total of $38,346.00 in financial aid. With the estimate of my cost of attendance I was provided before I submitted my enrollment deposit, the difference would’ve been manageable. However, my cost of attendance increased from the estimate by ~$4,000.00, so my total cost of attendance sits at $49,846.00, which makes the difference $11,500.00 for a full year which is out of my reach.
I’ve already emailed the financial aid office at my college and am filling out applications, but I am extremely worried about how I am actually going to pay for this. I have $3,904.00 in savings and not much else. I plan to get a job on campus, but I doubt that I will make enough to pay off the difference. However, I am reluctant to get a private loan for this amount with an exorbitant interest rate. I am in a pickle, and I would appreciate some advice on what to do, if anybody has it. Thank you.
